Exercise is probably one of the most important things for anyone to engage in throughout their days. Especially Kids. Your kids are probably constantly on the move and even more so driving you to the thinking of..” how do I get these kids to move and burn off this energy so they sleep like babies tonight!” Well I have 5 easy ways to get that incorporated in your house NOW!
1. Start each morning with fitness. Once your kids are awake have them participate in 10 minutes of fitness as a group or with you! Or both! Put on some music and have them complete some exercises such as: air squats, pushups ( you can do these on the couch or the wall), jumping jacks, toe touches lunges ( and more!) Starting the day with exercise will get them to release that energy they would have spent running around the house!
2. Go for pre or post dinner walks. Its super important to continue movement during the day ( and get those steps in!). Incorporating a pre or post dinner walk can be essential for movement before bedtime. It also can be an opportunity to connect, be outside, and take some time away from technology too! A win win on all accounts!
3. Make a game out of anything ( no really!) Kids completely eat up any opportunity of thinking outside the box so what better way to get them moving than to make up games while doing household chores or activities! Pretend to be their favorite superhero or movie character. Act out an activity scene in a movie or a tv show while cleaning out the dishwasher or sorting the silver ware drawer! The possibilities are endless.
4. Put the kids to work in the yard. Now that the warm weather is approaching what better time to have them get some movement than to put them to work in the yard. I know so many kids who enjoy being in charge of jobs and helping out! Maybe give some sort of an incentive for helping out such as extra tv time or maybe they get to pick dinner one night!
5. Have them do virtual fitness with friends or a coach! Fitness is so much more fun with friends. Schedule a zoom date with friends and have them workout together, or even FaceTime or Skype! If that isn’t possible, reach out to a virtual fitness coach ( @specialedtutoringct.com) and have the fitness be brought right into your living room or basement! No equipment is needed for your kids to get a great workout.

It’s never too late to incorporate the benefits of fitness for your kids at home. Good luck! And as always reach out to me with any questions you may have 🙂
