PARENTS! 7 Tips for Distance LearningšŸ’»ā˜ŗļø

Distance Learning is everywhere now. We are trying to navigate with this new ā€œnormalā€ and to be honest, there are several families, especially the ones I work with who are overwhelmed, anxious and just plain old tired. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to stay on task when there doesn’t seem to be any sort of routine at all. So here are some tips I have gathered for you and your family to be more successful during this uncertain time;

1. Set a schedule. Have your children get up each morning like they normally would be going to school. This helps with getting into a routine right off the bat

2. Set a tone for the day. Goal setting is huge and helps children stay focused and connected. Maybe even have a rewards incentive for the end of the week if all work is completed. We don’t work without getting a pay check right? Children should have some incentive to drive them to complete their school work. This will help with motivation and self confidence as well. It could even be as simple as a sticker chart, or options to make their favorite meal at the end of the week!

3. Set a fixed time to engage in course work. A set time to complete school work is essential to success.

4. Limit distraction. A ā€œ digital quarantineā€ may be necessary to get your child to focus on their studies. Limit the use of devices. Maybe have them use the device during an earned break.

5. Make space for learning. A specific area in the home designated just for them to compete their school work is essential for reaching goals and being successful.

6. Keep the same school schedule. Make sure your child is still earning breaks such as lunch and recess. It’s extremely necessary for them to have as normal of a schedule as possible. Maybe set a timer for beginning and end times! Positive reinforcement for completing work and earning breaks such as time outside to ride their bikes or go for a walk for some fresh air.

7. Keep social interactions via video chats. Children are used to loads of social interactions at home. It’s so important to keep this going during distance learning. This should be beyond social media and texting. They should be set up by parents and will help with that active social engagement.

Don’t worry. You got this! Reach out to me if you need any help or guidance at all. I’m always here to help!
